Long ago, people in South America told stories about brujos (wizards) and brujas (witches). These magic people lived in forests, on mountains, or near small villages.
Brujos and brujas knew many secrets about nature. They used special plants to make potions that could heal sick people and keep them safe. Some say they could talk to animals or call the wind and rain. Other brujos could make glowing lights appear in the dark.
The most powerful brujos and brujas could even change their shape. They could turn into animals, like birds or cats, or into balls of light to travel at night. This helped them move quietly and go anywhere they wanted.
Villagers sometimes felt afraid of the brujos and and brujas. They tried to be kind and careful so the brujos and brujas would use their magic to help, not harm them.
Today, telling stories of the brujos and brujas reminds people of the mystery and magic of wizards and witches in Latin American folklore.
