The lizards gather at the top of a rocky hill to play their favorite game of sliding down the hill on big flat rocks.
Coyote watches them and thinks, "That looks like fun. I'd like to try it."
Coyote asks the lizards if he can join in.
"Maybe you can try it on a small rock, but you'll probably crash and die if you try the big one," says the old lizard. "It's taken us lizards years of practice."
Coyote, being a bit of a show-off, says, "The small rock looks way too easy for me. I'll try the big one."
"You'll be sorry," says the lizard. "You should stick to running and chasing rabbits. You're good at that."
Coyote steps onto the big rock, tips it, and goes flying down the hill. Coyote loses control and the rock catches the edge of the rocky hill. It flips into the air and takes Coyote with it. Then the big rock falls and squashes Coyote.
The lizards gather around and wonder what to do with the squashed coyote in the middle of the hill.
"We can't leave him here, but how can we move him? He’s very heavy." The old lizard says, "We should bring him back to life. Then he could leave on his own."
And so they did. They used their magic to bring Coyote back to life. Coyote went on his way and never asked again to join in the lizards' games.
