Matching online game: Estimate and Go Buggy!
Objective:
Estimate large numbers of objects and adjust estimate based on feedback such as "too high/too low."
Materials required:
cards of bugs printed from this lesson
Suggestions for use:
This may be done as a class or small group activity. The minimum group size is three.
Click the red "Bugs" button at the top or Click here or to generate different bug cards which can be printed (page 2).
Cut the cards out so that the answer below the card is not visible when showing the picture. Generate and print one card for each group.
Designate one student in each group to hold up the picture of the bugs and give the "too high/low" feedback. Another student should be designated to keep track of the number of guesses.
Students should call out their guesses. The "holder" of the picture should say "too high" or "too low" after each guess.
The group that guesses the right number in the fewest guesses is the winning group.
Extensions:
Estimation Jar: Every day/week have one student count and put objects in a jar. Everyone in the class guesses the number. The student with the closest estimate wins a prize and/or fills the jar for the next round.
